Supreme Leader of the Sri Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha Most Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Mahanayake Thero

The Thero was recently appointed as the new Supreme Mahanayake of the Sri Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha. He had previously served as the Honorary Chairman of the Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha and had rendered a great service to the Sasana development.
The Most Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Mahanayake Thero has been appointed as the fourth Supreme Leader of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Sangha Sabha to fill the vacancy created by the death of the Most Venerable Kotugoda Sri Dhammawasa Mahanayake Thero. Most Venerable Madihe Pannasiha, Most Venerable Davuldena Gnanissara and Most Venerable Kotugoda Sri Dhammawasa Mahanayake Theras have previously held this post.

 
Additional Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs P.A. Mr. Sarathchandra assumes duties

 

Mr. P.A. Sarathchandra, Additional District Secretary, Nuwara Eliya assumed duties as the Additional Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs on 01.07.2021.

Mr. Sarathchandra with 21 years of experience in Administrative Service - Deputy Director - Administration, Training, Publications (Rural Development Administration Institute - Borulla), Assistant Divisional Secretary (Wilgamuwa), Divisional Secretary (Laggala Pallegama), Assistant District Secretary / Additional District Secretary (Nuwara Eliya) He has served in many government institutions.

Assisting religious places in distress in the face of covid-19

Covid-19 Symbolic distribution of aid parcels to temples and places of worship that do not have access facilities due to the epidemic situation took place on 2021.6.3 at Temple Trees under the patronage of the Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

 The project was launched on the instructions of the Hon. Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of Buddha Sasana Religious and Cultural Affairs.


 Through this program, dry food parcels will be distributed to all religious places including temples, Silmatha monasteries and other places of worship with the assistance of the CWE.
 Under this, the distribution of aid parcels representing all religions took place symbolically today.  Accordingly, Ven.  Parcels were distributed to Rev. Somasundara.

 The Royal Panditha Venerable Agraharare Kassapa Nayaka Thero and the Chief Incumbent of the Hunupitiya Gangarama Vihara Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero were also present on the occasion.  Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Secretary to the Prime Minister Gamini Senarath, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana Religious and Cultural Affairs Prof. Deshabandu Kapila Gunawardena, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Sunanda Kariyapperuma and a number of government officials were present at the occasion.

2021 Dhamma Teacher Certificate Examination also postponed.

It has been decided not to hold the Dhamma Teacher Certificate Examination which was scheduled to be held on 19.06.2021 due to the Corvid 19 epidemic situation that has arisen in the country.

A special news Conference on the upcoming Vesak festival

A special press conference on 2021.05.21 regarding the forthcoming Vesak Festival was held at the Department of Government Information.

It was further stated that in view of the current epidemic of covid 19 diseases, Dana Sheela meditation on the full moon day of Vesak should be performed at home and all the people of the world should be wished with good health.

The Hon. Registrar of the All Ceylon Sasanarakshaka Board Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Nayaka Thero, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs Prof. Deshabandu Kapila Gunawardena and Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Sunanda Kariyapperuma were present at this special press conference.

 

Reopening of Buddhist Dhamma Schools in the Western Province 2021. 04.25

The Ministry of Education has already informed that the schools for all grades in the Western Province will be opened on 19.04.2021. Accordingly, it has been decided with the consent of the All Ceylon Sasanarakshaka Board to start Dhamma Schools in the Western Province on 25.04.2021.

Dhamma School Grade Examination 2021. 05. 09

The Dhamma School Grade Examination scheduled to be held on 04.04.2021 will not be held on that day and it has been decided to hold the examination after the proper commencement of the activities of the school system with the consent of the All Ceylon Sasanarakshaka Board.

The Dhamma School Grade Examination is scheduled to be held island wide on 09.05.2021 and the examination will be conducted as per the instructions and guidelines provided by the Health Divisions using all the Buddhist Dhamma School Examination Centers in the island.

Grade 06 from 08.30 am to 09.30 am 1 pm

Grade 07 from 09.45 am to 10.45 am 1 pm

Grade 08 from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm 1 hour 30 minutes

Grade 09 1.00 pm to 02.30 pm 1 hour 30 minutes

Grade 10 from 08.30 am to 10.30 am 2 pm

 

Silmatha is a new training institute for education

Renovated Anuradhapura Arippuwa New Sangamitta Silmatha Training Institute based on the objective of developing the Tripitaka Dharma knowledge of the Venerable Silmanis who are engaged in the work of guiding the society in the right direction. The day was offered to the Sasana at an auspicious time at 11.30 am.

 

The Faculty of Education provides the opportunity for the monks to study the Tripitaka and its supervision, guidance and lectures are given by the lecturers of the Bhikku University, Anuradhapura. Activated as a residential course, it is open on weekdays from 1 p.m. It will be held from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and only a maximum of 30 monks will be selected for each course.

Residential and all facilities are provided by the Department of Buddhist Affairs. This course aims to develop the knowledge of the Tripitaka of the Venerable Silmanis, to propagate the Dhamma using the learned Tripitaka Dhamma facts, to socialize the correct Tripitaka and to dispel misconceptions regarding the Tripitaka. Information on the course can be obtained from the Development Division of the Department of Buddhist Affairs and the Buddhist Affairs Officers of the Divisional Secretariats.
